Pumas 4 Palin

Posts Tagged ‘Sexism in Media

Reclusive Leftist is one of my favorite websites. It’s wisdom is special, of a rare and precious kind. Also, while the blog wears no badges on the sleeve, for a an awoved leftist, RL is a veritable puma!

Over the months, I have quoted or linked to Violet Socks often, but I want to take this opportunity to a particularly well written argument and article about a pernicious trend in  the campaigns, Obama camp specially, and all the attendant virulence and vitriol directed at women.

“Stone Her”  is a particularly vital and powerful post that must be read.

I don’t  see that it is possible to read this post and not come away with a feeling of having been chastened. It has a universal message, though now directed at a certain special group that acquiesces in all things Obama. The post deals with sex, porn, bots’ vulgarity, and whole host of issues the ‘other feminsts’ seem to find un-objectionable.

The crux of the post:

The American women who are acquiescing in the virtual stoning of Sarah Palin are obeying the same sick dynamic that animates every patriarchal society on earth. It’s why women in tribal hellholes nod approvingly when their menfolk stone the local adulterer. It’s why women cheer when other women, uppity women, are publicly shamed and abused. It’s why women at sites like Jezebel spend most of their energy vilifying other women as sluts, skanks, bitches, cum-dumpsters, whores, and whatever other names they’ve borrowed from the masculine vocabulary.

But for all the dark analysis, the post is nothing if not positive:

Maybe when all is said and done, 2008 will turn out to be the final flourish of the anti-feminist backlash that’s been rumbling through our culture for 30 years. Perhaps Hillary Clinton’s near-miss for the Presidency unleashed the beast. Maybe this is its last gasp.

I would also recommend these other posts at the same blog:

Sarah has ridden out the early storm! Kudos to her and her friends  and supporters. Sarah’s GOP supporters stood fast by her united and vocal in their criticism of the left wing nuttery as seen in the videos in this post.  In the immediate aftermath of her being named and till the Charlie Gibson interview, the left blogs and some in the MSM have assailed her, impugned her credentials, maligned her character, slandered her reputation and twisted everything about her into some caricature. :Yet she came through.

The most eloquent and telling part of this great lady’s good nature is the tribute she paid to Hillary Clinton, not just upon her own nomination, but also in the Gibson interview. I have updated the “interview post” with youtube clips. To ward the end, she pays glowing tribute to Hillary. Those following news of Hillary will know that that lady has been equally reluctant to be the main attacker of Palin.  Good for the Ladies!!

Palin Pumas, keep your eyes on these sites. They practice rumor mongering and vile criticism.

Mudflats  (sling mud, flatly wrong  – their blogroll says it all)

Progressive Alaska (uses limited, short clips of quotes, just like Marshall, err they are TPM clips!!)

Alternet is another broad leftee frontal attck site that is full of propagandist postings masquerading as opinion and analysis.

More links later.

Now the videos. Thic is how you defend your candidate (poor Hillary)

Why do we still read US magazine and Rolling Stone? I say dump ’em

51% Say Reporters Are Trying To Hurt Palin

Over half of U.S. voters (51%) think reporters are trying to hurt Sarah Palin with their news coverage, and 24% say those stories make them more likely to vote for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in November.

Thirty-nine percent (39%) also believe the GOP vice presidential nominee has better experience to be president of the United States than Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. [sic]

The potential problem for Democrats is that Obama, the junior U.S. senator from Illinois and a former state legislator, is the party’s standard-bearer, while Palin, an ex-mayor and now governor of Alaska, is number two on her party’s ticket. [sic]

Just a week ago 67% of voters told Rasmussen Reports they didn’t know enough about Palin, only the second woman ever to be on a national political ticket, to comment on her. Heading into last night’s speech, however, 52% had a favorable opinion of Alaska’s Governor.

Since McCain announced Palin as his running mate on Friday, she has been subjected to an unprecedented wave of negative media stories, many focused on her personal life and especially the pregnancy of her unmarried 17-year-old daughter. The focus of the coverage, especially in the blogosphere, has even prompted Obama to distance himself from it.

Republicans have responded angrily, and the media was the target of numerous negative comments over the first two nights of the GOP convention. Several aides to Hillary Clinton, who Obama defeated for the Democratic presidential nomination, also have criticized the media coverage for its sexist tone.

In the new survey, although 85% say they are following news stories about Palin at least somewhat closely, just five percent (5%) think reporters are trying to help her with their coverage, while 35% believe reporters are providing unbiased coverage. [sic]

The findings, nevertheless, are troublesome for the embattled news industry and parallel what voters said in surveys earlier this summer. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of voters now believe most reporters try to help the candidate they want to win, and 49% believe reporters are trying to help Obama this year. Only 14% think they are trying to help McCain. In another survey, 55% said media bias is a bigger problem for the electoral process than large campaign donations.

Although women voters by a 48% to 35% margin believe the coverage of Palin reveals a double standard in the media, they continue to support Obama more than men. Palin in her comments already has made clear that one of her key missions is to lure women voters disaffected by Clinton’s defeat in the Democratic primaries to the McCain column.

 This video is the brainchild of Indy Robin at Shut The Freud Up. Some of the excerpts from that site shed light on the ideas that went into the conception of this video>

“For months, I had listened and watched silently as the MSM and press engaged in repeated misogynist and sexist attacks against Hillary Rodham Clinton and I did nothing. As time went on I was filing away these attacks mentally and carrying them with me emotionally. Day after day, week after week, I watched feeling more and more grief for Hillary and her campaign. Then one day, one of the more egregious attackers came on and I jumped up and ran frantically looking for my remote control to turn him off. I had completely stopped watching …”

“….I laid, crying as I listened to this nationally known television reporter describe Hillary as having a multiple personality disorder.”

“…..When a society forms a silent agreement that allow men to come on television for months on end and compare a female presidential contender to:

  1. a dog on a leash;
  2. the grandmaster of the KKK;
  3. a mentally ill inhuman IT pimp;
  4. a nagging deceitful cackling wife;
  5. a humiliated woman without any redeeming political value;
  6. A spoiled white woman who’s never worked hard for anything in her life;
  7. a woma
  8. n who is so masculine she must shave her face; and
  9. and a woman who is such a threat to America that we may have to take her out and kill her behind a barn

Then WHY wouldn’t that be world wide news? This is not just sexism, this is full blown character assassination and today our silent agreement ends.”

Comments and Reactions from viewers are just amazing:

    Home from commercial fishing grounds in Bristol Bay, and here's Piper helping slay salmon to market! A good season for wild reds on the Nushagak, Piper hopes to make enough to cover, maybe, a cell phone bill. Do you agree, as I’ve said before, we need more girls holding up fish in pics instead of holding up iPhones in selfies?!  It’s always wonderful re […]

  • It Takes a Village... to Slay a Salmon July 3, 2013
    The beauty of catching some of our Alaskan species with fins is the amount of meat harvested with each fish. Rod and reeling red salmon, or, my favorite, a big (or even not so big) halibut ensures you've got a few dinners taken care of even when feeding a bunch of people.We had a blast hauling in halibut in Homer a few days ago, despite the cold rain an […]

But as Lincoln affirmed when he dedicated that hallowed ground, nothing we say or do can “add or de […]

    If you missed President Obama’s State of the Union address last night, you didn’t miss much – especially if you watched any of his past four State of the Union addresses. We heard the same recycled rhetoric, and we heard his Orwellian declaration that the cornucopia of new federal programs he proposed, as well as his intention to eradicate world poverty, wou […]
  • New Year's Resolution to Keep the Faith! January 1, 2013
    Best wishes to everyone for a happy New Year! In the coming days there will be a great deal of debate about the goings-on in the political arena and the shenanigans in Washington. Constitutional commonsense conservatives must stay engaged and hold our “leaders” accountable to the voice of average everyday hard working Americans or we will very soon become an […]
