The last great human wilderness action-adventure sport is on. Nay, it’s not just human, it’s human-animal interactive, dynamic competitive race against time.

The Iditarod Race is an amazing event. Hundreds of dogs, dozens of mushers, thousands of volunteers – and a thousand mile trail along Alaska’s wildest, coldest frontier landscape. The 2012 edition of the race is underway along the so-called Northern Trail.

This year’s roster of mushers features the charming sisters Berington. Listen to them here.

Godspeed, ladies!!

And speaking of ladies, let’s spend a moment about the other great lady of Alaska – Sarah Palin.

This blog wouldn’t have been drawn to this race if it weren’t for Sarah Palin. In fact, all things about Alaska are fascinating and beautiful only because of our love and esteem for Governor Sarah. The governor simply opened up a whole new world to millions around the globe. This blog finds it compelling to seek out and post amazing things about Alaska, about Alaskans and about Sarah.

Simply put, Governor Palin puts us in a state of adventure. For us Sarah Palin totally personifies Alaska. Her political philosophy is icing on this cake of discovery.

Interesting things about the race: just completing the race is a great honor, just as in a marathon race; finishing in the top half is a distinct achievement; repeat winning is an awesome result of dedication, discipline and luck. The race is a beloved tradition that seems to involve virtually every Alaskan. There is an excellent series about this race available for streaming on netflix/roku: The Toughest Race On Earth 2008.

May safety and good health accrue to all dogs, mushers, staff and volunteers involved. And may Sarah Palin prevail and grow in strength!

  • Slaying Salmon July 15, 2014
Home from commercial fishing grounds in Bristol Bay, and here's Piper helping slay salmon to market! A good season for wild reds on the Nushagak, Piper hopes to make enough to cover, maybe, a cell phone bill. Do you agree, as I’ve said before, we need more girls holding up fish in pics instead of holding up iPhones in selfies?!  It’s always wonderful re […]

We look forward to seeing you on the road, having the opportunity to spread the positive message of this book and really share in the true spirit of the Christma […]
  • It Takes a Village... to Slay a Salmon July 3, 2013
The beauty of catching some of our Alaskan species with fins is the amount of meat harvested with each fish. Rod and reeling red salmon, or, my favorite, a big (or even not so big) halibut ensures you've got a few dinners taken care of even when feeding a bunch of people. We had a blast hauling in halibut in Homer a few days ago, despite the cold rain an […]
  • Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg June 30, 2013
Today marks the beginning of the week-long ceremonies commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. There will be a full re-enactment of the battle, discussions with panels of historians, and of course a re-reading of the Gettysburg Address. But as Lincoln affirmed when he dedicated that hallowed ground, nothing we say or do can “add or de […]
  • #SOTUGottaBKiddingMe February 13, 2013
If you missed President Obama’s State of the Union address last night, you didn’t miss much – especially if you watched any of his past four State of the Union addresses. We heard the same recycled rhetoric, and we heard his Orwellian declaration that the cornucopia of new federal programs he proposed, as well as his intention to eradicate world poverty, wou […]
  • New Year's Resolution to Keep the Faith! January 1, 2013
Best wishes to everyone for a happy New Year! In the coming days there will be a great deal of debate about the goings-on in the political arena and the shenanigans in Washington. Constitutional commonsense conservatives must stay engaged and hold our “leaders” accountable to the voice of average everyday hard working Americans or we will very soon become an […]

On Monday’s Morning Joe, New York Times Chief White House Correspondent Peter Baker was welcomed onto the panel to discuss his and his colleagues’ latest report about President Trump’s TV news-watching habits. In the course of discussing the piece, MSNBC National Affairs Analyst John Heilemann made a point of bringing up how Trump’s favorite nightly news sho […]

  • NBC Touts Left-Wing Activist Demanding Defeat of GOP Tax Bill December 11, 2017
While covering President Trump making a “final pitch” for the Republican tax bill, on Monday’s NBC Today, correspondent Peter Alexander declared that the legislative push came “despite criticism it benefits the wealthy more than the middle class.” He even promoted a social media video of a Democratic Party activist calling on Republicans to reject the plan. • Amid NYC Terror Coverage MSNBC Panel Complains About Guns in America, Trump December 11, 2017
As information was still coming in regarding Monday’s attempted terror attack in the New York City subway, an MSNBC panel discussing the news ridiculously shifted the topic to outrage over guns and gun crime in the U.S. And on top of that, they bemoaned how President Trump would try to make the attack an immigration issue to support his temporary travel ban. […]

  • NBC Dismisses Media Screw Ups, Attacks Trump Instead December 11, 2017
On Monday’s NBC Today, correspondent Peter Alexander briefly noted that “the President ratchets up his war on the news media” with tweets criticizing liberal press for a recent series of high-profile mistakes and fake news stories. However, the reporter was more interested in turning the topic into an excuse to slam Trump for his own “misleading claims.” […]

  • 40 Minutes After NYC Terror Attack, CNN Obsesses Over Trump’s Diet Coke Habits December 11, 2017
An unfolding terrorist attack in New York City wasn’t enough to derail CNN’s obsession with Donald Trump. Forty minutes after suicide bomber Akayed Ullah on Monday attempted to murder people with a bomb, New Day journalists lost interest. Co-host Alisyn Camerota had more important topics: Trump’s appreciation of Diet Coke.
