Awesome New Video – State of the Electoral Race

Posted on: September 19, 2008

Here we go again, the new narrative of ‘Obama has regained the lead’ is upon us and will be with us till the media gets a kick in the pants, administered by either Sarah or McCain. Not that Obama is n’t capable of doing it himself. But that’s the pattern we will be in. Dramatic changes, media telling us BO is doing great.  More smears of Sarah Palin are on the way, just about anything that McCain does will be either a gaffe, slur, slight or flaw of some sort. Then back to more polling data to show how BO is still doing great!

Don’t believe a word of it.

Obama is not doing exactly great. By all measures this should not have continued. BO should have wrapped it up six months ago, and be planning his transition team by now. But along the way he ran into a couple of ladies, Hillary and Sarah. Oh yeah, then there were the PUMAs, the Denver Group, the NObamists etc.

With six solid weeks to go, and four unpredictable debates in the pipeline, nothing is a done deal.

Be warned, it’s a long video, not for the quick-fix types. With 10 states to discuss at length, it runs to about an hour and a half. The detail is exquisite, the discussion is maddeningly non-partisan and the news uptodate as of 9-17-08.

You can sit through it all, or just pick a state of your choice. I hope you enjoy it.

Now the Second Feature of our Double Bill

The great scholar Prof. Jay Cost is back. Throughout the primaries he delighted us with wonderful charts, dynamic spreadsheets, great poll analyses and excellent reading and talking material.

Now, Cost has a new view, the state of the race. Especially soothing to those of us overwrought by the innumberable and changeable polls coming out daily. And those easily fooled by RCP and it’s average of the average or averages nonsense.

Check this out:

Jay cost Overview of Polls and the state of the race

What does this chart tell you?  It reveals a lot to Jay Cost, read it all here, courtesy of RCP. It’s a rich article, again not for the anti-wonkish. I hope this doesn’t give it all away, but …

It is not unreasonable to expect a close race. Some perspective is called for here. We have in our collective memory the blowouts of 1984, 1972, and 1964. However, presidential elections in the 19th century were persistently close. Between 1876 and 1896 – all five presidential elections were decided by 5% or less. The country was also closely split in the ante-bellum period. Between 1836 and 1860, only William Henry Harrison was able to pull substantially more than 50% of the vote.

  • Slaying Salmon July 15, 2014
Home from commercial fishing grounds in Bristol Bay, and here's Piper helping slay salmon to market! A good season for wild reds on the Nushagak, Piper hopes to make enough to cover, maybe, a cell phone bill. Do you agree, as I’ve said before, we need more girls holding up fish in pics instead of holding up iPhones in selfies?!  It’s always wonderful re […]

  • It Takes a Village... to Slay a Salmon July 3, 2013
The beauty of catching some of our Alaskan species with fins is the amount of meat harvested with each fish. Rod and reeling red salmon, or, my favorite, a big (or even not so big) halibut ensures you've got a few dinners taken care of even when feeding a bunch of people. We had a blast hauling in halibut in Homer a few days ago, despite the cold rain an […]
  • Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg June 30, 2013
Today marks the beginning of the week-long ceremonies commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. There will be a full re-enactment of the battle, discussions with panels of historians, and of course a re-reading of the Gettysburg Address. But as Lincoln affirmed when he dedicated that hallowed ground, nothing we say or do can “add or de […]
  • #SOTUGottaBKiddingMe February 13, 2013
If you missed President Obama’s State of the Union address last night, you didn’t miss much – especially if you watched any of his past four State of the Union addresses. We heard the same recycled rhetoric, and we heard his Orwellian declaration that the cornucopia of new federal programs he proposed, as well as his intention to eradicate world poverty, wou […]
  • New Year's Resolution to Keep the Faith! January 1, 2013
Best wishes to everyone for a happy New Year! In the coming days there will be a great deal of debate about the goings-on in the political arena and the shenanigans in Washington. Constitutional commonsense conservatives must stay engaged and hold our “leaders” accountable to the voice of average everyday hard working Americans or we will very soon become an […]

  • Absolute Liberal Insanity: Combat White Supremacy with More Abortions
Listen up, America! The feminist left wants you to know that the solution to the white supremacy plague, that began when the pilgrims hit Plymouth Rock, is more white abortions. In fact, “the white family unit must be destroyed.” In an article published by Medusa Magazine, (a magazine whose website is headed by the slogan “Feminist Revolution Now!”) columnis […]

  • Corrupt Media Torches Ted Nugent, Silent on George Takei Hate
The media's liberal bias keep getting worse in the Age of Trump. The Motor City Madman has had a change of heart. Ted Nugent said he wants the country’s political rhetoric to soften in the wake of the June 14 shooting of Rep. Steve Scalise by a Bernie Sanders fan. And he’ll do his part by shelving his own ugly comments regarding the modern Left. “At the […]

  • CBS, NBC Ignore Nebraska Democrat Cheering He's ‘Glad’ Scalise ‘Got Shot’
In Friday’s edition of liberal media double standards, the CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News saw no reason to cover new audio out of Nebraska in which a state Democratic Party official used an expletive to proclaim he’s “glad” Republican Congressman Steve Scalise (La.) “got shot” on June 14. While CBS and NBC were caught up covering viral video of a danc […]
