The tide is high, but The Denver Group is Holding it back!

Posted on: August 9, 2008

The title of this post, the line is inspired by Blondie, and a favorite, almost an anthem in this blog. Also, it is a bit of smiley nod in response to Heidi Li Feldman’s own observations in her post recently about a note from a kindly friend that “the tide may be turning.”

Of course, for us Hillary admirers this is an uphill battle. How uphill you ask, about a mile-high!

Alright enough of that, here is the real stuff.

The Denver Group’s  work  is beginning to have impact, first amongst it’s own fans, encouraging them to donate, support, speak up and act (Act Blue, that is). Now, the effort is getting a bit of coverage in the mainstream media, spreading the word and educating the general public on the issue of nomination procedure. Some folks have used the ads placed by The Denver Group as starting point for other discussions, as seen in the screen shot of an online poll.

The Denver Post, the paper most convention area residents are likely to read and talk about, is now writing about efforts to place Clinton’s name in nomination. Here is the link to the article written by Alison Shery and Anne Mulkern

And down south in Texas,  in an article bylined in Washington, Chron.com the online version of Houston and Texas News, reports that the Texas delegation is talking about a vote for Hillary.

Here is the link to that article.

Also, a Houston television station did a report on the PUMA email campaign and some impact it has had. Here is a video from news station KHOU , tip via Alegre’s Corner, on PUMA’s impact on one Dem delegate. (Thanks, texan4hillary)

The transcript of the news report, in case of video link problems, after the jump.

Link to the station reports, if you wish to keep tabs on future reports from them: click here.

On a related note, NPR did an interview with two pumas, Darragh Murphy and Pamela Merritt. Go listen and comment on the network blog here.

  • Slaying Salmon July 15, 2014
Home from commercial fishing grounds in Bristol Bay, and here's Piper helping slay salmon to market! A good season for wild reds on the Nushagak, Piper hopes to make enough to cover, maybe, a cell phone bill. Do you agree, as I’ve said before, we need more girls holding up fish in pics instead of holding up iPhones in selfies?!  It’s always wonderful re […]

We look forward to seeing you on the road, having the opportunity to spread the positive message of this book and really share in the true spirit of the Christma […]
  • It Takes a Village... to Slay a Salmon July 3, 2013
The beauty of catching some of our Alaskan species with fins is the amount of meat harvested with each fish. Rod and reeling red salmon, or, my favorite, a big (or even not so big) halibut ensures you've got a few dinners taken care of even when feeding a bunch of people. We had a blast hauling in halibut in Homer a few days ago, despite the cold rain an […]
  • Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg June 30, 2013
Today marks the beginning of the week-long ceremonies commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. There will be a full re-enactment of the battle, discussions with panels of historians, and of course a re-reading of the Gettysburg Address. But as Lincoln affirmed when he dedicated that hallowed ground, nothing we say or do can “add or de […]
  • #SOTUGottaBKiddingMe February 13, 2013
If you missed President Obama’s State of the Union address last night, you didn’t miss much – especially if you watched any of his past four State of the Union addresses. We heard the same recycled rhetoric, and we heard his Orwellian declaration that the cornucopia of new federal programs he proposed, as well as his intention to eradicate world poverty, wou […]
  • New Year's Resolution to Keep the Faith! January 1, 2013
Best wishes to everyone for a happy New Year! In the coming days there will be a great deal of debate about the goings-on in the political arena and the shenanigans in Washington. Constitutional commonsense conservatives must stay engaged and hold our “leaders” accountable to the voice of average everyday hard working Americans or we will very soon become an […]

New York Times reporter Mike Ives covered the furor over Yang Shuping, a Chinese student who just graduated from the University of Maryland, praising the United States and criticizing her home country in her commencement speech: “Chinese Student, Graduating in Maryland, Sets Off a Furor by Praising the U.S.” Yet Ives, who works in an industry that relies on […]

  • CNN’s Byers: Conservative ‘Anti-Media Rhetoric,’ ‘Incivility’ Caused Montana Incident May 25, 2017
As part of the media’s hysteria-filled reactions to the disturbing event out of Montana Wednesday night in which Republican congressional candidate Steve Gianforte allegedly body slammed The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs, CNN senior media reporter Dylan Byers blamed it on “anti-media rhetoric” and “civility” from conservatives.

  • Fox's 'Shots Fired' Finale: 'We Have a Race-Based Justice System Rooted' in Prejudice May 25, 2017
The season finale of Fox’s race-baiting drama, Shots Fired, “Hour 10: Last Dance,” continued with its black=good, white=bad theme as it ended with this conclusion: it’s always about race. Wednesday night’s resolution was completely predictable. The black police officer, who was justified in killing unarmed white teenager Jesse Carr, is indicted. But there is […]

  • Hypocrite Rubin Loses It Over Montana Incident, Blames Trump; ‘The Fish Rots from the Head’ May 25, 2017
On Wednesday night, Montana Republican congressional candidate Steve Gianforte allegedly body slammed The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs the night before the state’s special election. Jacobs went to a hospital to be checked out and had his glasses smashed, so what’s known about the incident isn’t pretty to say the least. Importantly, any assault of anyone (reporter o […]
