Why I don’t watch TV news shows, anymore, at all..

Tea Bag Puma

An excellent puma blog, Autographed Letter Signed, has an exquisite new post, detailing the exact same sense as this blog has experienced over the last two years. Namely, stunned exasperation at the media’s role during the recent election cycle, and heartache at the way Democrats turned against the Clintons, Hillary specially.

As painful as  all of that recapitulation is, this post by Kathy Barkulis is a must read. It’s simply, Pure Puma.

Why do I post it here? Well, turns out Barkulis is the same person as the lady we saw during the CNN-Tax Tea Party confrontation video. Who knew?

When I finished reading that post, and only then found out that the author was that same person as in the video below, believe me,  it was a deja vu moment, a Harriet Christian moment, if you will. That, is not too surprising either, as it was exactly a year ago that that lady burst on the scene, and won herself over as the original she-puma.

Do go and read the post. Click on the image.

Original Post Begins Here:

All Pumas know what sort of perfidy the media is capable of. For well over an year, we watched Hillary being savaged, Sarah being maligned mercilessly, candidate BO being praised sky-high and then totally venerated. PUMAs are well-versed in the media dirty tricks, lack of conscience, misogyny, and virulent left-leaning talent.

Shutthefreudup was borne of such angst. During the ‘08 campaign, the media bias was well documented in all pumasphere and here as well. See here, here, here.  As noted  here,  Zombie wrote brilliantly about the meta game that went on during the longest presidential campaign ever!

Now, comes the Tea Party coverage. This video is just one reason why I gave up television two years ago, and am not likely to go back to it ever. The woman reporter virtually smears a whole movement as being as Nobamist, picks out the extreme nut job on view and totally ignores everyone else. She even mentions Fox, as a reason to devalue any citizen complaint, Nice!

To do anything activist nowadays is automatically directed agains the president, wow! What a change a couple hundred years have brought, too bad the King didn’t have access to CNN back during the Boston Tea Party days!!

Here is Rachel Maddow of some other network, she chortled endlessly over her own naughty thoughts.

Enough already! Giggles over tea bags?  Sex and the City caused Carrie and us to blush about this one, delightfully enough, some SIX years ago!!

For crying out loud, Rachel, you really are late for this party.

The last word on the Media’s idiocy must go to the great Bob Somerby of  Daily Howler, to wit:

For Maddow, Tuesday would be the fourth straight night of utterly juvenile dick jokes. (Last night’s program made five.) And so, a familiar dodge appeared. After treating us to a few quick dick jokes, Maddow pretended to explain why she’s been behaving this way: “I can’t help myself,” she said. Again, we ask our basic question: Has anyone on cable news ever been this disingenuous? [sic]

Sadly, this is becoming a standard feature of the Maddow Show. In this utterly bogus performance, “Sunday morning Rachel” appears, apologizing for the conduct of her “Saturday evening” alter ego. Her “admission,” of course, is utterly bogus—a juvenile way to have life both ways. As of last night, the prurient host has devoted five straight nights to long strings of “juvenile” dick jokes. On two of those nights, she has pretended that she is embarrassed by these conversations. On this third occasion, she pretends that she keeps doing these things because she can’t help herself.

But the news is a very important thing. A response to this nonsense writes itself:

Beyotch! If you can’t control the things you do, you need to get yourself off the air! Stop telling yourself that you’re a Rhodes Scholar. Go somewhere else. Get some help.

[Emphasis Added]

David Shuster went on a rampage of puns, double entendres, and glib Mattews-level sound and fury.

Even the highly talented baseball broadcaster Steve Stone couldn’t have reached this level of puns and wordplay!

Does any of this matter, it’s all politics, and of the moment only, right?  Don’t we always move on to the next hot topic anyway? That, is exactly the point. For, lost in all of this is a sad, and bitter truth about the media and what it can bring about. Again, Daily Howler’s Bob Somerby:

All through the 1990s, liberals and progressives sat back and took it while Clinton, then Gore, were relentlessly savaged. (George Bush ended up in the White House.) Now, progressives sit back and take it again, as this pair of simpering chimps make a joke of “progressive” news programs.

For as long as we’ve been alive on this earth, sneering pseudos of this type have undermined progressive interests. Long ago, they helped elect Nixon. Rest assured: In their open contempt for average people, they’re hard at work on the project again.

Envoi:

If this post accomplishes just one thing, gets you to visit Daily Howler, and return to it often, then some good shall have been achieved. Keep howling, Bob!

  • "Going Rogue" Book Tour Dates Through Thanksgiving November 9, 2009
Here are some details of the upcoming book tour. I’m starting in Michigan, and you’ll understand why when you read the book. Last year, I made a promise to the good people of Michigan that I would be back, and now I’m keeping that promise. (Michigan is near and dear to my family’s heart! Our eldest son, Track, lived with a great host family there during his […]
  • Commemorating a Victory for Freedom November 9, 2009
Twenty years ago, the ultimate symbol of the division between freedom and tyranny was torn down. The Berlin Wall was constructed for one purpose: to prevent the escape of East Germans to the freedom of the West. The Wall’s cold, gray façade was a stark reminder of the economic and political way of life across the Soviet Union’s sphere of influence in Eastern […]
  • The Pelosi Bill Was Rammed Through on Saturday, But Sunday’s Coming November 8, 2009
We’ve got to hold on to hope, and we’ve got to fight hard because Congressional action tonight just put America on a path toward an unrecognizable country. The same government leaders that got us into the mortgage business and the car business are now getting us into the health care business. Despite Americans’ decisive message last Tuesday that they reject […]
  • Great Wisconsin Event (And Setting the Record Straight, Again) November 8, 2009
Great event last night in Wisconsin! It was an honor to meet great Americans who are working so hard to remind us of life's sanctity and value. I commend this fine state for its efforts to make our nation a more welcoming place for all children. Let me set the record straight on the media's follow-up reports of the great event: Despite what CNN rep […]
  • Speaker Pelosi: Your Blue Dogs are Howling November 7, 2009
Like many Americans, I’m very concerned about the efforts underway to rush through the 2,000 page Pelosi health care bill this weekend. Why the rush? That’s a lot of pages to read. Why not give everyone the chance to read it and debate it? How much will this bill cost us? It’s unclear because the figures coming out of Washington keep changing – and always in […]

  • A Victory for Common Sense and Fiscal Sanity November 4, 2009
Congratulations to the new Governors-Elect of Virginia and New Jersey! I’d also like to offer a special word of support to the new Lieutenant Governor-Elect of New Jersey, Kim Guadagno, the first woman to hold that office. Of course, the real victors in this election are the ordinary men and women who voted for positive change and a return to fiscal sanity. […]
  • Road Trip! Book Tour Announcement November 4, 2009
I am very, very excited about the upcoming road trip for my book. It will be an honor to meet as many of you as possible! “Going Rogue” publisher HarperCollins is working hard to schedule book signings across the nation, and we’ll be announcing the locations in the next day or two. I’ve decided to travel to cities outside of the typical book tour venues, and […]
  • It’s Imperative That We Exercise Our Right To Vote Today November 3, 2009
“...the right which woman needed above every other, the one indeed which would secure to her all the others, was the right of suffrage.” Susan B. Anthony used those words to describe the cause she spent her life fighting for: the right of an American woman to cast a ballot for the candidate of her choice. Because of Susan B. Anthony’s tireless efforts and th […]
  • Response to Vice President Biden's Comments Today About My Position On Energy Independence November 2, 2009
As the vice president knows, I have always advocated an all-of-the-above approach to American energy independence. Among other things, my alternative energy goal for Alaska sits at 50 percent because Alaska reached more than 20 percent during my term in office. The Obama-Biden administration, on the other hand, recently announced a renewable goal of only 25 […]

On Monday's Countdown show, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann  took issue with Republican Governor Haley Barbour's contention that President Obama has personal popularity -- based partially on being the first black President -- that is separate from the unpopularity of Obama's policies, as the MSNBC host referred to  President Obama as a "target […]

I believe in miracles. They happen everyday. Sarah Pulliam Bailey picked up on that in a November 9 post at Get Religion yesterday: With Bon Jovi, Angela Merkel and Mikhail Gorbach […]

Permit a late word or two on Newsweek’s thoroughly in-the-tank cover story for Al Gore.
